In the year 1985, following introduction of Mandal system the district has been divided into 46 mandals, in four Revenue Divisions:
1.Khammam 2.Kothagudem 3.Paloncha 4.Bhadrachalam
 
 
 
 
 
The present name of Khammam is said to have been derived from the name of the temple 'Narsimhadri', later 'Stamba Sikhari' and then it was termed as 'Stambadhri'.The vertical rock under the temple is known as 'KAMBA'.

Educational Scenario of the Tribal Sub-Plan Area :
29 Mandals out of 46 are fully And 2 mandals are partly located in the Tribal Sub-Plan area of the ITDA Bhadrachalam.
